I can not hold back any longer. It gives me chills to visit any resource found on the AAAS website, especially when the words “Advancement of Science” are in their name. The most recent example in the Project 2061 site. In particular, AAAS has the Atlas of Science Literacy Volumes 1 and 2. From the SAMPLES provided, they look like great resources that any K-12 science educator should have as a guide. Beautiful information is contained inside. However, like everything else at the AAAS, these materials are behind a money wall. Nothing at the American Association for the Advancement of Science is free. I should know. In graduate school, a professor gave AAAS a list of graduate students to sign up as AAAS members FREE for one year. Unfortunately, after the year ended, they would not stop calling and harassing us to send in money to remain members of AAAS with all the great member benefits. I lost count of how many times they called me.
So, next time you are searching for some resource, if a match is found on the AAAS website, keeping looking. Don’t peruse the eye candy just to be met with sadness and defeat.
