I have been a regular reader of PhD comics ever since I’ve started gradschool, I believe. If you are not a scientist, the chances are you won’t know it. And you probably wouldn’t even find it that interesting or funny. It depicts the life of a few gradstudents with humorous exaggeration, playing on a lot of stereotypes (many of which are true, though) surrounding academia.
However, once in a while Jorge Cham, the author of the comics, gets together with some other scientists and creates these neat little infographics, very simply explaining some really cool stuff, from what the Higgs boson is to how we extract information from starlight. Since I always find it easier to learn visually, I can only imagine how much fun school and college would have been if all the classes were done in such a manner. While the comics are very easy to appreciate and relate to as a scientist…
